Multicenter, sham-controlled trial

Light therapy for male and female pattern hair loss

Over 26 weeks, both men and women using an active light device gained more terminal hair density than those using a sham device.

These studies used a range of light therapy devices, not Halvio specifically. Results vary from person to person.

15 minutes a day. Zero mess. Zero awkwardness.

  • No greasy residue

Unlike topical sprays or oils, your hair stays clean and styled.

  • Built-in auto-timer

Shuts off automatically after your daily session. Nothing to track.

  • Completely wireless

A rechargeable battery is built into the lining. No dangling cords, no power bank in your pocket.

How it works

Three steps, beneath the surface. No chemicals. Just light, absorbed by the follicle.

01 02 03
  1. 01
    660 + 850 nm red light

    Reaches the follicle

Red light passes through the scalp to the base of the hair follicle. Gently, with no needles, chemicals or downtime.

  2. 02
    Cellular energy (ATP)

    Re-energises the follicle

Mitochondria, the energy centres of each cell, absorb the light and produce more ATP. Studies also link it to better scalp circulation and calmer inflammation around the follicle.

  3. 03
    Anagen (growth) phase

    Extends the growth phase

More follicles move into, and stay longer in, the active growth phase. With consistent use, thin, miniaturised strands can grow back thicker.

Results build gradually over months and vary from person to person. Most clinical studies measure change over 16 to 26 weeks.

Questions

Answered, plainly. What people ask before they buy.

Can I use it with minoxidil, finasteride or derma-rolling?

Yes. Halvio is drug-free, so it fits alongside most hair-loss routines, and a randomised trial in women found that red light combined with 5% minoxidil worked better than either treatment on its own.

Use the cap first, on a clean, dry scalp, then apply any topicals afterwards. That way nothing blocks the light, and the LEDs stay clean. On derma-rolling days, give your scalp time to settle before a session. If you're on prescription treatment, let your dermatologist know you're adding light therapy.

Are these lasers or LEDs, and does it matter?

Halvio uses LEDs. Both LED and low-level laser devices have been tested against sham devices in clinical trials for pattern hair loss, and both showed benefit. There are no head-to-head trials proving one better than the other. What matters most is the wavelength, the amount of light reaching the scalp, and how evenly it's spread.

LEDs emit a wider beam, so a dense array covers the crown, temples and hairline evenly rather than in small points. They also don't carry the eye-safety classification that lasers do, though you still shouldn't look directly into the lit cap.

How do I clean the cap?

Switch the cap off and unplug it. Wipe the inner lining with a soft cloth lightly dampened with water and a drop of mild soap, or with an alcohol wipe, then let it air-dry completely before your next session.

Never submerge the cap, hold it under a tap or put it in a washing machine. The electronics sit just behind the lining. A wipe once a week is enough for most people, or more often if you use styling products.

How long does the battery last?

A full charge lasts 7 to 10 sessions, roughly a week to ten days of daily use. It charges over USB-C, so the cable you use for your phone works too.

Will I notice shedding at first?

Some people notice slightly more shedding around weeks 2 to 4. It's a known, temporary effect: light encourages resting follicles back into the growth phase, and older, weaker hairs fall out to make way for new growth. Not everyone experiences it, and it usually settles within a few weeks.

If heavy shedding continues beyond about 8 weeks, message us or speak to a dermatologist.
